United Nations Security Council Resolution 494 – Appointment of the new Secretary-General

The Security Council,

Resolution 494 (1981) or 11 December 1981.

Having considered the question of the recommendation for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations,

Recommends to the General Assembly that Mr. Javier Perez de Cuellar should be appointed Secretary-General of the United Nations for a term of office from I January 1982 to 31 December 1986.

Adopted unanimously at the 2312th meeting.
