Section 247 of the Indian Penal Code 1860 is about Fraudulently or dishonestly diminishing weight or altering composition of Indian coin. It is under CHAPTER XII (OF OFFENCES RELATING TO COIN AND GOVERNMENT STAMPS) of the Code.

Fraudulently or dishonestly diminishing weight or altering composition of Indian coin

Whoever fraudulently or dishonestly performs on 1 [any Indian coin] any operation which diminishes the weight or alters the composition of that coin, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine.
