United Nations Security Council Resolution 1641 – Burundi

Resolution 1641 (2005)

The Security Council,

Recalling its relevant resolutions on Burundi and in particular resolution 1545of 21 May 2004,

Reaffirming its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorialintegrity and unity of Burundi, and recalling the importance of the principles ofgood-neighbourliness, non-interference and cooperation in the relations betweenStates in the region,

Noting that factors of instability remain in Burundi, which continue toconstitute a threat to international peace and security in the region,

Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations,

1. Decides to extend the mandate of the United Nations Operation inBurundi (ONUB) until 15 January 2006;

2. Decides to remain actively seized of the matter.

Adopted by the Security Council at its 5311th meeting,on 30 November 2005.
